Authentication Research

When the provenance of a work of art is uncertain—especially when the potential dollar value is high—obtaining a formal authentication is essential to protect both owners and buyers.

Who Can Authenticate Artwork?

Only a recognized expert, committee, or foundation dedicated to a particular artist is authorized to confirm the authenticity of that artist’s work. Anderson Fine Art Appraisals (AFAA) does not represent itself as a recognized authority on any artist. However, we maintain longstanding professional relationships with leading experts and foundations worldwide, and we understand their processes, documentation requirements, and submission standards.

Our Role in the Authentication Process

Our objective is to prepare and present the appropriate expert with a detailed fact sheet on your artwork that clearly supports its presumed authenticity. This preparation often involves extensive research in specialized archives, collections, catalogues raisonnés, and international databases.

Why Preparation Matters

Providing complete and accurate documentation before submission is often pivotal to a positive outcome. If the expert requires a personal examination of the artwork, we can assist with logistics, shipping arrangements, or on-site viewing coordination to ensure the process runs smoothly.
